    5 ways I save money

I’m 25 and I’m currently trying to save for a deposit for a house. Let’s be honest, house prices aren’t cheap in Devon! I need around a £25,000 deposit and my wage really isn’t that great… Over the past couple of years I have come up with some a few simple ways to save money and I thought I would share these with you.

1 – I Make lunch to take to work

I can’t even stress this enough! So many people I work with buy lunch EVERY SINGLE DAY and it’s such a waste of money. They usually spend about £5.00 a day on food and drink. Over the cost of a month that adds up to £100. That’s £1,200 a year that could go towards a deposit. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy; most days I just take a sandwich, packet of crisps, some fruit and a yoghurt and that’s a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a meal deal every day.

2- I no longer waste money on makeup

I used to be the same as every other girl. I always wanted to try the latest foundation or the latest blusher. I used to read blog posts about these wonderful new products that had come out and I always wanted to get my hands on them and try them. As I’ve gotten older I care far less about make up. I’ve used the same foundation and powder for years because it works well with my skin type. I have a favourite mascara and a couple of favourite blushers which I always use. I realised that buying all of these new products was such as waste of my money as most the time I would use them a couple of times and then return to my trusty staple pieces and the new bits would sit in a drawer and not get used.

    3 – I don’t drink alcohol

People often think I’m strange for this, I never drink alcohol and I don’t plan to start anytime soon. I HATE going to parties and hanging out with drunk people, I hate the taste of alcohol and I hate feeling out of control of what I’m doing. This saves me SO much money when everyone else is buying expensive drinks and I’m sat sipping my lemonade that only cost me £1.50. And I get to wake up on a Sunday morning feeling totally refreshed whilst everyone else is hungover.

    4 – I don’t tend to buy expensive clothes

My attitude towards clothes has changed so much over the last few years. I used to LOVE going shopping with my mum nearly every weekend and I could easily spend about £200 each time. Don’t get me wrong, I still love shopping, but I guess I just don’t have the time for it as much anymore. I used to always shop in places like Topshop and Debenhams which were expensive. Of course, I still go to these places occasionally and for special occasions, I’ll happily spend a little more. But Honestly, I love places like Matalan and Sainsburys. It’s usually half the price and the quality is equally as good.

5- Date night doesn’t have to be expensive

When I first met Shaun we would eat out maybe 3  times a week. We’d also go to the cinema or go bowling. As fun as this was, it used to cost us a lot of money. Over more recent months we’ve cut back a lot of these things and we still have just as much fun. Often date night will consist of cooking dinner and sitting down to watch a movie together or playing a board game. We still have a great time and it’s so much cheaper.

What are your tips for saving money? I’d love to hear.

    Our Disney fastpass selections

As you may or may not realise by now, I’m off to Disney world on July 14th. Over the last couple of weeks we’ve been eagerly awaiting for midday to hit so we could log onto the My Disney Experience website and book our fastpasses. As we’re staying off site we could only do them 30 days in advance of the day we visit the park, so this meant logging in most days for a couple of weeks to make our selections!

I thought I’d share with you the fastpasses that we have – We are also visiting Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Kennedy Space Centre,  Volcano Bay and Typhoon Lagoon, so obviously I don’t have a full 14 days of fastpasses to share.

    My goals for July

I’m pretty sure I only just wrote one of these sharing my goals for June, but somehow it’s July already! July is going to be a very busy month for me as I’m off on holiday. These are my goals for the month:

    Watch lots of Disney movies

I’m off to Disney World on July 14th, so of course, to get me in the spirit I need to watch lots of Disney Movies. As I’m writitng this I’ve just finished watching Big Hero 6 and I absolutely loved it.

    Have a pedicure

You can’t go on holiday without having your toe nails painted! I’ve booked in to the spa at Darts Farm in Exeter to have a luxury pedicure with my mum. I’ve never been to Darts Farm before for a treatment so I’m intrigued to see how it turns out.

    Schedule, schedule, schedule

I’m determined to still have a couple of blog posts go up while I’m on holiday; I’m going to try and get a few scheduled in over the next couple of weeks. I also need to sort out scheduling tweets for while I’m away.

Have the most amazing holiday ever

The first six months of this year have been crap! I lost my Nan and my life seems so incomplete without her. I’ve also taken my fair share of crap on the internet from a very nasty girl who seems to strongly dislike me even though she doesn’t know me! I’m so ready to stop being an adult for 2 weeks and go and have the most amazing time ever. I’m going with my parents, brother and boyfriend and I truly plan to have the most magical time 🙂

Ask yourself the question – ‘What do I want?!’

I’ve recently been reading ‘Ice Cream for Breakfast’ by Laura Jane Williams – It’s bloody brilliant and I’d definitely recommend it. One chapter particularly stood out to me – Chapter 5 – All about making choices and decisions. A basic overview is that it talks about how children just say what they want and maybe adults should be more like this too. Children give straight up decisions and if they don’t like something then they let you know.

This really got me thinking about ‘What do I want?’ – but it’s all about being realistic – Obviously we would all like to win the lottery and not have to work anymore; realistically that isn’t going to happen.

So here’s my REALISTIC list of what I want:

    • More sleep
    • My own house – living at home with your parents at the age of 25 is seriously annoying when you’re in a committed relationship … But house prices!
    • To not be the friend that has to make all the plans
    • More time to see my friends
    • Praise for the job I do every day at work – I work my arse off and never get any recognition
    • More time in the day to do what I enjoy doing
    • To be listened to when I rant (to be fair Shaun is pretty good at this)
    • To make my Nan proud and keep making cards – she was my biggest supporter and now she’s gone

I’d love to hear what you guys want in the comments below 🙂

5 things that made me smile last week

I think its important that we look back at the good things that happen each week; it’s so easy to get bogged down with the 9-5 work routine that you forget to enjoy the little things that have made you happy. These are 5 things that made me smile last week.

1- My cat Mickey – He’s just so cute and every time I get home from work he instantly puts a smile on my face! He’s only two, he’s very playful and he has such a personality!

2 – Ordering pizza with Shaun on Friday night and binge watching 13 Reasons Why … I think chilled out nights are so important for a happy lifestyle.

3- Baking a cake with Shaun – I love that he takes a real interest in things that I like to do. It’s so lovely to be able to share my hobbies with the person I love.

4- Getting to spend time with Grandad – My Nan only passed away a few weeks ago so spending time with my Grandad seems so valuable. Time can be cut short when you least expect it so it’s important to treasure all memories with loved ones.

5- We ordered our dollars for Florida! It seems so real now – Only 15 days to go 😀

What has made you happy recently? 🙂

    ‘See ya real soon!
