Hello 2020

It’s January 1st 2020 as I’m writing this post so HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! I’ve woken up this morning with a throat and feels like it has razor blades in it, a banging headache and a snotty nose … Not the start I had in mind for the year. I didn’t stay up to see the New Year in as I was feeling so ill, but that’s okay as I wasn’t too bothered anyway. I hope everyone’s year has started a little healthier than mine!

Usually, I start my year by listing out my goals for the year ahead. This year I don’t have any goals. Instead, I just want to focus on all the things that bring me joy. As I’ve gotten older I’ve realised that I’m not going to lose weight, I’m not going to suddenly run a marathon and nor am I going to change my diet and live on salads! I like chocolate, I like biscuits and I’m actually pretty ok with how I look… I mean YES, I could lose some weight, but I’m not going to waste my time stressing over it. Instead, I’m going to go out with my mum for hot chocolate and cake, enjoy meals out with Shaun and have a good time!

So, what brings me joy?

What I love about this is that there are so many things that bring me joy; I could sit here and write a list for hours about things that bring me joy. Focusing on ‘joy’ just opens up a world of possibilities to me. I can try new hobbies, make new friends, spend time with loved ones and family, craft, organise, binge watch Netflix … The list goes on!

If I had to narrow it down to 10 things, then this is what I want to spend my next year focusing on…

1 – Learning to knit (Shaun’s mum is going to teach me, so watch this space)

2 – Planning my wedding

3 – Planning my family holiday to Disney World in July

4 – Hobbies that make me happy – ie. Reading, jigsaw puzzles, card making, crafts etc

5 – Stressing less over the little things

6 – Spending quality time with my friends and family

7 – Planning our honeymoon for 2021

8 – Baking/ cooking

9 – Relaxing and self-care

10 – Watching Gilmore Girls (I’m obsessed haha)

Do you have goals for the year ahead? What are you aiming to focus on? Let me know in the comments!

I taught myself how to knit using Sheep & Stitch on Youtube, she’s excellent and her tutorials are so easy to follow. Good luck! It’s such a relaxing activity.
