Why I’m starting my Twitter from scratch

My twitter account had around 1800 followers but I decided that I would close the account down and start again. Some may think I’m crazy (which maybe I am), but I just wasn’t happy with the account. I started my Twitter account back in 2010. Back in the days of fangirling over One Direction on a Saturday night as they performed on X-Factor … Yep, I’m sure you can all imagine the cringy tweets. At first, I used Twitter all the time, then for years, I didn’t touch it. When I started my blog a few years ago I started using the account again. So I had all these people following me from my fangirl days and then started gaining all of these new followers from my blog. What a mixed bag that was!

During my nine years on Twitter, my interests changed a lot. This meant a lot of the accounts I was following were not really providing me with content that I was interested in and I was finding it hard to view the content that I was actually interested in. Basically, it was just one big mess! I tried unfollowing loads of accounts, but I honestly followed so many people that it turned in to this mammoth task that I couldn’t be bothered with. For about the last year I was just rolling with the messy Twitter account trying to pretend it wasn’t an issue. Then I decided it had to go and I had to start again.

Discovering myself and developing my brand

I recently signed up to Vix Meldrew’s Grow and Glow online community; may I just add that it’s bloody amazing! I’m currently on this journey of discovering more about myself and my purpose and really trying to nail down the niche of my blog. I’ve been working a lot behind the scenes to develop my brand and get my blogging life together. I’m beginning to take my blog in a direction that focuses on personal development and wellness and this seemed like the perfect time to delete that messy Twitter account and start again. My blog is something that I’m proud of and I really want to begin to develop it and take it to the next level. I use Twitter all the time to promote my blog posts and it’s where most of my traffic comes from, but I wasn’t entirely sure that the One Direction fangirls would really care about this content I’m creating… And more to the point I wanted to be able to follow similar people with similar interests but their content became hidden in amongst everyone else I was following on Twitter.

New blog niche means new Twitter

So I did it! I waved goodbye to the 1800 followers that I had, hit that delete button and I’ve started again. It’s so important to follow people that bring value to your Twitter experience. It’s so refreshing now that I can log into Twitter and see content and blog posts that I’m passionate about. I’ll be honest, I am feeling a little lonely though as my followers have dropped so much. If you fancy giving me a follow then here’s a link to my Twitter account.

Thanks for reading,

Charlotte xx

This is a really interesting idea! I recently went through my Twitter and deleted a load of old tweets- I’ve had mine for years and years ands lets just say a lot of it wasn’t on brand. I couldn’t imagine starting all over again but you’re brave to do so and I understand why!

Yeah, I tried going through and deleting old tweets but I just got bored of trying to sort it out. I’m glad I’ve started afresh, although I’m feeling a little lonely haha. I’m really trying to find new accounts to follow that fit with my niche more.

I was the same with my twitter in that i started it years ago but didn’t have my blog back then, and then I stopped using it for ages and when I started blogging I picked it back up again. I didn’t follow too many people back when I first had it though, so I’ve not had the issue of unfollowing people that wasn’t in the blogging community but I totally get why you’ve restarted, and I’m sure you’ll get back to 1800 followers and more!!

yeah, it seems like loads of people are actually using a Twitter account that they started years ago. I thought I was the only one haha. Hopefully my following will start to grow again soon.

This makes complete sense! I too had a Twitter 10 years ago, actively used it and got bored, and then started using Twitter again when I started my blog. However, I started a fresh one when I started my blog and I feel it was the best thing for me!

This is an interesting idea! When I started my old blog I was just posting about new posts and I followed the accounts that I follow on my other personal accounts. When I started this new blog, I was considering doing what you did but I just deleted my old posts. I like how you’ve actually discussed this.

Yeah, I really wish that I had just started a new Twitter when I started my blog, but for some reason, I didn’t haha. This definitely seems like the right decision though.

Awww, I did wonder why I wasn’t following you the other day, now it makes sense, it’s a new account! I’m following you now, hehe! I like the idea of having a fresh start and keeping your account just for your blog. I only started my Twitter when I created my blog, but I would defo feel the same if I had mine for nearly 9 years… who knows what I would have been following back then, haha! I’m sure you will build your following back up super quick! <3 xxx

This is an interesting idea! I don’t know if I could bring myself to do it myself, but I certainly need to go through and delete my old teenage tweets.
