4 things to do this month for a positive year

February 3, 2019

January is finally out of the way and boy did it seem like a long month! It wasn’t a bad month, or a good month, it was just pretty average. I’m not a big fan of this time of year. It’s cold and dark and spring seems like it’s a lifetime away. With that being said I want to make February a positive month and set myself up for the year ahead. Here are four things I want to do this month.

1 – Clear out unwanted clothes

Clearing out my wardrobe and getting rid of things that I no longer wear is one of my favourite things to do at this time of year. It’s nice to make a bit of room for some new spring pieces and it’s also a good way to discover old favourites that have ended up lost at the back of the wardrobe.

2 – Clear out the kitchen cupboards

I can actually tick this one off of the list as I did it earlier. I think we all end up at a point where we have things in the kitchen cupboard that have gone out of date or ingredients that we bought to make one meal and have never used again. I got rid of everything like this and it’s so refreshing to see a tidy kitchen cupboard. Not only that, but I’m trying to cook new meals and try new things. This has freed up room for me to buy some new ingredients.

3 – Create a healthy habit and stick to it

I don’t mean commit yourself to exercise 7 days a week for the rest of the year because that probably isn’t going to happen! But we can all make small healthy changes that we’re more likely to stick to. The one I focus on is drinking water. I’m actually pretty good and drink 2 litres of water a day. So for me, I’m trying to up this to around 3 litres of water a day and cut out the odd fizzy drinks that I sometimes have. Another healthy habit you could try is to find a substitute. So if for example, you eat a lot of crisps, maybe try and replace some of them with popcorn which is slightly healthier. Or you could replace full-fat Coke with Coke Zero. Sometimes it’s lots of small changes that can have a positive effect on us.

4 – Make some plans

It’s always nice to have something to look forward to. This time of year can be a bit of a drag trying to get to summer. Try and make some plans for the year ahead so that you have positive things to look forward to. This could be as simple as arranging a meal out with a group of friends, booking tickets for a concert or if you want something a little more extravagant then why not book a holiday!

Do you have anything that you hope to do this month? Let me know in the comments below.

  1. OMG how satisfying are tidy kitchen cupboards, most of our food that we use is accounted for as we make a meal plan every week.

    Doing one tonight- can’t wait!

I definitely agree about the Making plans bit, I’ve just booked a weekend away to Amsterdam in august for the boyf’s bday.

    What do you have planned?

We’re the same, we write a meal plan so most things do get used but we always end up with odd bits and bobs that go out of date. That sounds lovely, we’re off to Florida in May which I’m really looking forward to xx

  2. I love a good clear out, it’s so satisfying! I had a healthy January but February is going downhill a bit so I need to focus more and clear out the chocolate. Simply but easy suggestions. X

I’ve just cleared out all of my clothes ready for our house move and I’ve got 3 bin bags full to go to the charity shop it’s ridiculous I don’t even know how I own that many clothes in the first place! I can’t wait to start filling our kitchen cupboards when we move too. I totally agree about making plans I don’t have any holidays booked this year but I do have two trips to London planned for November so at least I have something to look forward to!

Oh, the cleaning out old clothes is a good idea. I totally need to do that one.
It’s always nice to get sorted through all your clothes and know exactly what’s what and where everything is.
And it gives you an excuse to buy knew. (Well, for me its more like force me to buy new. I hate clothes shopping so I’m really bad at buying new stuff.)
    Great post <3

This is such a lovely post Charlotte! I’ve recently had a kitchen cupboard clear out too, it’s such a great way to introduce healthier foods and make some changes. I’ve started meal planning each week too so nothing goes to waste, so far so good! 🙂 I agree, small changes make such a positive difference. Making exciting plans really does make me feel more positive too, I have my sister’s birthday spa day next month which I’m really looking forward to! Fab post, thanks for sharing your suggestions! <3 xx

  7. Oh gosh! I don’t even want to think about the state of my closets! These are some really great tips, I will definitely have to put some of these into practice.

These are some great simple ideas. I always feel so much better when I’ve done some decluttering, whether that’s unwanted clothes, makeup or kitchenware. I need to work of healthy habits though. Thanks for sharing.
