    Christmas traditions

Isn’t it funny how we all have different Christmas traditions? Everyone around the world will celebrate in different ways and we all have different things we like to do.

I’m pretty sure my family have stuck to the same tradition for about 20 years! I love everything about Christmas. It’s such a happy time of year with so many lovely things to celebrate. I thought I would share with you some of our Christmas traditions!

    Christmas Eve

My mum always prepares food for Christmas lunch on Christmas Eve. When I wake up I always help her out by peeling potatoes and chopping up veg, we always have Christmas music playing in the background making it really festive!

In the afternoon my family always go bowling and then out for pizza. We’ve been doing this for as long as I can remember. It’s honestly so much fun to get all the family together the day before Christmas; you’ve gotta love a bit of competitiveness with the family!

In the evening I always sit down with my mum, dad and brother and we watch A Muppets Christmas Carol … and of course, Shaun joins us for this as well now! He also comes bowling with us 😀

    Christmas Day

Up at 7 am, sound familiar?! haha. We always get up super early and head downstairs. We open our presents as a family and then have breakfast together. Mum then starts preparing the lunch and I usually play Mariokart with my brother. Around 11 am my grandparents and uncle come over and we open more presents and then sit down for lunch. Mum always does the most amazing Christmas lunch – My favourite is always the roast potatoes and pigs in blankets! In the evening we usually play lots of board games as a family and eat lots of food!

This year, for the first time in my life I’m actually breaking the tradition! I’ll be waking up at Shaun’s house on Christmas day and spending the morning with his family. His mum is going to cook us Christmas lunch and then we’ll head to mine in the afternoon to see my family! It’ll be strange to break tradition, but I’m still excited.

    Boxing day

For as long as I can remember, we’ve always spent boxing day at my Nan’s house. She cooks a second Christmas dinner and it’s always amazing! As some of you know, my Nan very suddenly passed away this year so things will be very odd this year 🙁 I’m so sad that I won’t get to spend the day with her as she loved Christmas… BUT my amazing Grandad is stepping in! With my help, we’re going to do a buffet for the family. There will be cold meats, sandwiches, sausage rolls, pasties etc. I’m so excited to be able to share the time with my Grandad preparing the food and I know my Nan will be very proud of him for stepping up to the challenge! My Nan was like a cooking queen. But I’m sure Grandad can do just as well!

I’m so excited for Christmas and I’m eagerly counting down the days! How do you spend your Christmas?

    Affordable blog photo props

Blogging can be an expensive hobby, but it doesn’t have to be if you’re clever about what you buy. A big thing that I’ve been focusing on recently is improving my photos. When I first started my blog I would just quickly snap a photo and “It would do”. I don’t really know why I had this attitude as I studied photography at college and I’ve always really enjoyed it. I think I was honestly just trying to write as many blog posts as quickly as I could as I hated the fact my blog had very little content when I first started.

When I look back at old posts some of the photos are really bad! I kept seeing all these pretty photos on other peoples blogs and decided I wanted to work more on my photography. The big thing I felt I was missing out on was photo props. Below is one of the first photo’s I took. It just looks too plain and boring and there isn’t enough too it. (If we’re being honest, It’s terrible haha).

I spent a fair bit of time looking through other peoples blog posts to see what type of thing they were using. Once I had a rough idea in my head of what I wanted to get I made a trip to The Range. I literally love The Range, they sell pretty much anything you could ever and want and it’s cheap. Each item I picked up cost under £2.00 which I think is such a bargain. I really don’t see the point in spending a fortune when you don’t need to.

    Affordable blog prop photos

Above is a photograph of lots of bits and pieces that I picked up. From the craft section I picked up the sparkly Christmas trees that are meant for card making. These are great for scattering around objects in photos. As we’re right on top of Christmas I got a fair few winter/ Christmas bits. I love the furcones and the holly leaves. I also picked up some pretty pink and white petals as well as some flowers.

It’s so nice being able to add decorations into the background of photos and having items to scatter in between objects. My photo’s look so much prettier and have a lot more details. Below is one of my up to date photos using my new props.

If you’re looking for ways to improve your photo’s I’d definitely recommend investing in some props to use. The Range is definitely a great place to go and I’d also recommend any local craft shops. If anyone has any other suggestions on where to buy photo props please leave them below!

Relaxing things to do during the busy festive season!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!! AND it’s also one of the busiest times of the year where we’re constantly on the go. I always find around Christmas that I’m constantly busy. Whether that be a Christmas work party, meeting up with friends, Christmas shopping or seeing family… The list goes on!

I’m the sort of person that gets very stressed out if I don’t take some time to relax. I always like to have some time each week where I don’t do a lot. This post is going to have lots of ideas of relaxing things that you can do during the busy festive season. It’s so important to remember to slow down and take time for ourselves and this is something I’ll be trying to do this year.

My top ways to relax during the festive season

A hot bubble bath to relax

Have a hot bubble bath – I don’t think anything beats a hot bubble bath after a long and busy day. I love to use the Lush bubble bars. They smell amazing and create SO many bubbles.

Read a book – I definitely don’t read enough. Once I get into a book I LOVE reading so much and find it so relaxing. This year I definitely want to find more time to read over the festive season. Even if it’s just for 20 minutes before I go to bed. It’s such a great way to relax and unwind.

Watch a Christmas film – Miracle on 34th Street, Elf and The Grinch are some of my favourite Christmas films. Shaun and I love to sit down for an evening or weekend and watch a movie together.

Stay in and cook a meal – Myself and Shaun often pop to Tesco after work on a Friday night. We pick up something yummy to cook for dinner and usually treat ourselves to a dessert as well. The festive season usually consists of a lot of meals out, so It’s so nice to stay in and cook.

Light the fire and some candles – The fire burning and the scent of Christmas Candles is always so relaxing. I like to snuggle up with a blanket read some blog posts and watch Youtube videos.

    Ways to relax - candles

Go for a walk – We love to go to the forest for a relaxing walk during the winter. Chuck on your coat and scarf and make sure you have some welly boots. It’s so refreshing to go out and get some air and it’s the perfect way to de-stress.

Digital detox for the evening – Christmas is the perfect time of year to get together as a family and play some board games. It’s always good fun and it’s also good to switch off technology for the evening.

Hot chocolate – We all love it right?! Try experimenting with different flavours. I personally love to heat milk in a pan and add Terry’s Chocolate Orange. It tastes AMAZING! I like to sit and watch Netflix and drink hot chocolate.

I hope you all have a relaxing and fun festive season! What plans do you have?

Life update #1 | Getting an offer accepted on a house!

I’ve never actually written a life update post before as I figured no one would really care. Lot’s of things have happened over the last couple of months, so I figured now would be the perfect time for this post. I know I’ve spoken a lot on social media about buying a house etc but I’ve never really spoken about what’s been happening.

So here goes my little life update! I hope you enjoy 🙂

We’ve had an offer accepted on a house!!

Usually, you’d go to an estate agent to buy a house, but that’s not what we’re doing. We’re actually buying what was Shaun’s Nan’s house. To cut a long story short; Shaun’s Nan passed away about 12 years ago and her partner has been living in her house ever since. He passed away a few months ago so the house has now become available. The house was left in the hands of the solicitor to sell and then the money from the sale goes to Shaun’s family.

We decided it would be great to keep the house in the family and this is definitely something that Shaun’s Nan would want. So we approached the solicitor, told them we wanted to buy it and that we were happy to pay market price for it.

There’s been a lot of going backwards and forwards to agree on a price for the house based on the valuations that were done, but we got there in the end!! On Thursday 17th December we received an email saying that they were happy to accept our offer!!

We’ve now had an appointment with the bank to finalise the figures and submit our mortgage application. I honestly cannot tell you how excited I am that we’ll finally have our own place! We’re hoping everything will go through around January time. The house is going to be a huge project for us. It needs to be completely stripped back and redone – We’re talking plastering, new wiring, new kitchen and bathroom etc. Although it’s going to be a massive project it’ll be incredible once it’s all complete.

Wish me luck with a nice easy mortgage application process! haha.

If anyone has any tips on buying a house please leave them in the comments! Any help will be much appreciated 🙂
