I love reading peoples posts on what they got for Christmas. Not only am I just nosey, I also find it great inspiration for future present buying. So today I decided I would share what I got for Christmas.

And just to set the record straight I’m not trying to boast about what I received … If you don’t like posts like this then please don’t read it.

I feel like I was really spoilt this year. I’ve received so many wonderful gifts, I’m not going to share everything because that would be ridiculous, but I’ve picked out some of the main bits.

What I got for Christmas

First up I received this wonderful Beauty and the Beat Disney Ornament from Shaun. I absolutely LOVE it and it’s going to look perfect in our new home. Shaun also bought me tickets to see Aladdin on the West End which I can’t wait for. Keeping with the Disney theme I also received Beauty and the Beast on DVD, a Disney Cath Kidston Make up bag, a set of Disney Cath Kidston mugs and ‘The Disney Book’ which my brother has said will be perfect to keep on the coffee table in my new home.

The main thing I asked for this year was a calligraphy set and some calligraphy books. I’m so excited to learn a new skill next year. I absolutely love arts and crafts and I know I’m going to have so much fun with this. I spend a lot of time making handmade cards and I think adding calligraphy to them will really add to the overall look of the card.

Other gifts I received included candles, bath bombs, chocolate, gift vouchers and all the classic stocking fillers. Shaun and I also asked for bits for the house so we received a toaster, a kettle, a slow cooker and a saucepan set. I’m honestly so grateful for all of the things for the house as it’s going to save us so much money!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and received lots of lovely gifts!

See you all in 2018!

Things I wish I did differently in 2017

Now, I don’t want to sit here and write a super negative post about how things could have been different this year. At the end of the day, what has happened has happened and it can’t be changed. With that being said though, I think it’s good to look back and reflect as it may change the way you do things next year. On the whole, this year has been ok-ish, but there are certain things I would love to have done differently.

Here’s what I wish I did differently

I wish I started this blog earlier in the year – I started charlotteshares in May 2017. I had wanted to start writing a blog for ages, but I was always scared of being judged. This blog has made me so happy during the 2nd half of 2017, so I really wish I had started it earlier.

I regret not making more of an effort to get a new job – I’ve been unhappy in my job for well over a year now. At the start of 2017, I decided I needed a new job. I applied for a couple of things and had interviews but wasn’t successful in getting anything. I felt really disheartened and flat and just sort of gave up. As I’m now in the process of getting a mortgage, I’m pretty much stuck where I am until the mortgage has gone through and it sucks being this unhappy.

Why did I not make more effort to see my friends? – Over the last couple of months I’ve reconnected with people I went to college with and it’s been great! We’ve been out for meals together and it’s been so lovely. I really wish I had made more of an effort with this through the whole of 2017. It’s definitely something I’m going to take forward to 2018.

I wish I deleted my Facebook sooner – I was getting harassed on Facebook by someone. She would send me really nasty messages and was trying to break me and Shaun up. She very conveniently sent me a horrible message about 10 minutes after I found out my Nan had passed away. This completely tipped me over the edge. Not only was I trying to grieve the loss of my Nan, I was also trying to deal with her shit! My Nan passed away at the end of April, and in June I decided enough was enough and I deleted my Facebook. I was annoyed at first as I felt like I had cut myself off from my friends … But my god, my life has seriously improved now I don’t have Facebook making me feel shitty. If only I had done this years ago!!

Is there anything you wish you did differently in 2017?

A look back on 2017

2017 is coming to an end, so I thought it would be the perfect time to look back on the year and reflect on what has honestly been a very odd year. This year has flown by, as most years do! But I seem to have gone from very high points to very low points and it’s all been a bit strange. I’m definitely glad to see the back of 2017 as I know 2018 is going to be amazing!

I don’t want to dwell on the rubbish things that have happened this year as I’d like to try and look back on all of the positives! So let’s have a look at the best bits of 2017 🙂

The best bits of 2017

  • I went to Florida with my family and Shaun and had the best holiday ever
  • I re-discovered my creative side and have enjoyed making lots of cards and crafts
  • I went on a trip to Wembley Stadium to see my local football team play
  • I Celebrated my 2 year anniversary with Shaun
  • I went to the Harry Potter studio tour
  • Shaun and I spent a week away in Cheddar; we had our own private hot tub which was awesome
  • I raised £900 for Hospiscare Southwest in memory of my wonderful Nan
  • I started this blog which is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made
  • We put an offer in on a house (now we’re just waiting for the mortgage to go through)
  • I’ve re-connected with old friends from school and college
  • This one has only recently happened, but I joined the gym!
  • I’ve binged watched loads of new series on Netflix
  • I’ve learnt to cook new dishes
  • I’ve been on lots of fun day trips with Shaun

This is just a small snippet of all the fab things of 2017! I’m so excited to get to 2018 as I know it’s going to be amazing. In January our house should hopefully all go through and I’m so excited to start working on it.

What have been your best moments of 2017?

Skills from blogging

I’ve been blogging for 7 months now, and I’m proud to say that I’ve consistently posted for 7 months. When I began my blog I didn’t really know what I was doing. I would just string a few sentences together and snap a photo and post it. How wrong was I? Blogging definitely isn’t that simple.

Over the past 7 months, I feel like I’ve gained so many skills. If it wasn’t for this blog I wouldn’t have this skill base. I think it’s crazy how something I love doing has managed to provide me with so much. I get so much enjoyment out of my blog, and it feels rewarding knowing I’m improving myself as I go.

So what have I learnt?

Photography – Now I’ll be honest, I did study photography at college but that was years ago. I had honestly forgotten just about everything I learnt. I’ve now fallen back in love with my DSLR camera and I’m enjoying improving my photography skills. When I compare my latest photos to some of the older ones; there’s a huge improvement!

Self-promotion – This was definitely a scary one at first! I used to write posts, but I was too scared to promote them on twitter as I didn’t want people to think I was being big headed. Over the last 7 months, I’ve learnt that people are only going to read my posts if I promote them. I’ve learnt all about scheduling promotional tweets and the best times to do it to drive traffic to my blog.

SEO – Well sort of, it still confuses me quite a lot haha! But I definitely know a lot more than I used to. Before I started my blog I had never even heard of SEO but now I’m learning to use it to improve my posts.

Organisation – To be fair I’ve always been an organised person, but blogging has definitely improved my organisational skills. I use my bullet journal and notebook to plan everything out and make sure I get everything done on my blog that needs doing.

Networking – I absolutely love chatting with other bloggers. I love reading blog posts that people have written and commenting on what they’ve said. I also really enjoy joining in with Twitter chats and I find this networking to be fab for growing my audience.

Writing – Writing is something I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with. I LOVE writing, but I’ve never been that great at it. Creating my blog has definitely improved my writing skills. Now I’m no JK Rowling, but I’m proud of how much my writing has improved.

Creativity – Not so much something I’ve learnt, more something I’ve fallen back in love with. I have a degree in Graphic Arts but since graduating I stopped doing anything creative and got a boring office job. My blog has allowed me to start being creative again and I feel like my skills are constantly developing. I honestly feel so much happier now I’m being creative again.

What skills have you learnt from blogging?
