Now I’ll be completely honest, I hate this time of year! Spring and summer seems like forever away, it’s cold and dark and I just don’t enjoy it. I always get hit really badly by the January blues but this year I’m trying my hardest to not get stuck in a rut. So today I’m going to share with you my top 5 ways to beat those January blues!

1 – Book a holiday or trip – I’m actually really struggling this year as I cant do this. Due to our mortgage¬†about to complete we just don’t have the money to fork out on a holiday. But usually, I always book my summers holiday during January as it gives me something to focus on and look forward to. Even if you cant afford a week abroad, you could always opt for a weekend away in a cottage which is equally as nice. I’d highly recommend Nyland Lodge that I went to last year! ūüôā

2 – Plan to see friends – I find having plans really helps me beat those January blues as I have something to look forward to! I’ve already arranged various meet-ups with friends throughout January. We’re going out for a few meals and also boyfriends are included too which will be super fun!

3 – Get into a routine – I don’t know about you, but I find that simply having a routine instantly puts me in a better mood. This year I’m trying to incorporate 2 visits to the gym each week as I know it’s good for my physical and mental health. I’m also trying to get myself organised with meal planning and making lunches the night before for work.

4 – Make plans for the year ahead – I just love to have things to look forward to, it gets me through the daily 9-5 grind. I work somewhere that I have to pick all of my time off at the start of the year (which is kind of annoying). But because of this, I can make nice plans for the year. Shaun and I will plan theatre trips, weekend breaks, days out etc.

5 – Set realistic goals – January is a time that we all set ourselves goals, but sometimes people go completely overboard and set unrealistic goals … This just sets us up to fail which in turn makes us feel rubbish. For example, I don’t ever set a goal to lose weight as I know I’ll end up feeling upset. Instead, I set a goal to live a healthier lifestyle which is more achievable. 18 things to do in 2018

I love posts like this. I like to write down different things that I want to do during the year. It gives me something to focus on and makes me feel really positive about the year ahead. 8 has always been my favourite number so I keep telling myself that 2018 is going to be amazing!

So here’s my list of 18 things I want to do in 2018!¬†

1 – Read more books

2 – Book a week away in the sun to chill out and relax

3 – Learn calligraphy

4 – Go to the beach

5 – Eat a cream tea sat outside in the Devonshire sunshine! (or more likely in the rain)

6 – Go on a bike ride

7 – Host a BBQ in my own house and invite lots of family and friends over

8 – Take lots of photos

9 – Learn to sew (I was meant to do this months ago but it never happened)

10 – Regularly use my bullet journal to keep me motivated and organised

11 – Go for a walk in the forest

12 – Have a games night with friends

13 – Exercise more

14 – Clear out and declutter

15 – Walk more instead of always jumping in a car

16 РBuy another money saving jar and fill it with £2.00 coins

17 – Go out for breakfast with Shaun (Shaun would like this edited to ‘Take Shaun out for breakfast haha’)

18 – Have a spa day with my best friend

In the early stages of a relationship, it’s common to spend 99% of your time together. After all, you’re excited to get to know each other and spend time together. Usually, after 6-12 months of living out of each other’s pockets, you start to realise that you’re your own person and you need time to yourself to do what you enjoy. I think being your ‘own person’ when you’re in a relationship is so important.

Everyone needs their own space, it’s natural to want to be alone or to be spending time with your friends. I strongly believe that the key to a healthy relationship is to make sure you remain true to yourself and have time to yourself to grow and develop.

Be your own person in a relationship

When I first met Shaun, we were together all the time … We met at work so were quite literally together 24/7. I found myself in a situation where I never made the time to do things that I enjoyed doing and I rarely ever saw any of my friends. I reached a point where I knew I needed my space and Shaun was the same and needed his space too. Gradually, I started to make more of an effort to spend time developing my hobbies and seeing my friends and I’m 100 times happier now I’m my own person again.

Of course, for this to work you both need to be on board. I’m very lucky in that Shaun is so supportive of my hobbies (card making, anything creative and my blog). He encourages me to follow my dreams and work towards the future I want to build for myself. He’s also totally chill if I want an evening out with my girlfriends and this works both ways. He occasionally¬†meets up with his friends for games nights and to watch the football etc.

THESE ARE MY TOP 3 TIPS FOR BEING YOUR OWN PERSON 

1 – Have some hobbies that differ from your partner – Of course, it’s great to have hobbies that you can enjoy together. But it’s also great to have hobbies that you can do on your own. For me it’s being creative, growing my blog and making handmade cards.

2 – Make time to see your friends without your partner – Shaun and I will often meet up with my best friend and her boyfriend for a double date night which is great fun! However, I still like to see my girlfriends on my own; I try and meet up with them regularly for some girl time!

3 – Let your partner have alone time and make sure you do this too – This can be for the most simple things. For example, Shaun likes to watch football on the TV and I’m not that fussed about it. Instead of telling him he can’t watch it, I simply find something else to do with the time. Often he’ll be watching TV and I’m sat on my laptop writing blog posts and watching Youtube videos because that’s what I enjoy doing.

Hello 2018! 

It’s that time of year again where we get ourselves organised and plan everything out for the year ahead. I love this moment where I have a blank canvas ahead of me that I can do what I like with. Towards the end of last year, I discovered bullet journaling and I’m so excited to properly get into this for 2018.

The bullet journal I own is the Leuchtturm 1917 with the dotted paper. I didn’t really have any idea what bullet journal was best, but this is the one most people seem to buy. I’m really pleased with it, it’s a good size and the dotted paper makes designing much easier.

I love being really nosey and looking at other people’s bullet journal and seeing how they’re organising it. My favourite place the browse is on Pinterest. Today I thought I would share with you my layout for January 2018.

A monthly overview - January bullet journal

A monthly overview 

A monthly overview is something I personally find really useful. I’ve done this as a double page spread so that I have ample room to write. It’s useful to have this to quickly flick through if you need to check a plan/ birthday etc. I’ve also added a ‘Goals’ section and a ‘To do’ section to this page. This is somewhere I can write down any major things that I can easily refer back to.

A weekly overview 

As much as I love having a monthly overview, I decided to break this down further into a weekly overview. I looked at lots of inspiration on Pinterest and wanted to find a layout that best suited my needs. This is the best thing about a bullet journal; you can make it your own. After a long debate, I decided the most useful things for me to include in my weekly spread were:

  • The day and date that I can write next to
  • My work shift (as this changes every week)
  • Notes – To jot down anything and everything
  • To do list
  • Blog notes – I know this will be my most used section!
  • Meal planning
  • Shopping

I’m sure as I go through the weeks this will change, but that’s why I really love using a bullet journal to organise myself as I can change it at any point.

My goals and plans for 2018

It’s actually quite scary writing this post, how is it 2018 already? I’m honestly so glad to see the back of 2017. It was a pretty ‘meh’ year, but I’m really hoping 2018 will be much better!

There’s always something refreshing about entering the New Year. It feels like the perfect time to wipe the slate clean, start again and really focus on yourself and your goals. I like to look at it as a blank canvas that I can fill in any way that I like.

I’m starting off my 2018 by buying a house, and what can be more exciting than that?! The mortgage is currently going through and then once it’s all done we have a massive project on our hands. The whole house needs to be completely renovated as it’s run down. Obviously, this is going to take up a lot of our time, but other than this HUGE project my 2018 is free for me to do what I want.

Here are my goals for 2018 

Move into my own house – This is a given seemed as I’m in the process of buying a house, but I’m honestly so excited for me and Shaun to have our own space. We’re going to decorate it as we want it and it’s going to be amazing.

Continue crafting and doing what I love – I love making handmade cards and this year I want to up the quantity I’m making and sell beyond family and friends. I’m also trying to learn calligraphy as I think it’ll be a great skill to add to my handmade cards. I really want 2018 to be full of creativity and doing what I love.

Open an Etsy shop – Linking in with the above goal, I would really LOVE to open my own Etsy shop. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time but I’ve always been too scared. But 2018 is going to be the year I take the plunge and do it!

Get a new job – I’m miserable and that’s 100% down to the fact that I can’t stand my job. I work in customer service and dealing with rude obnoxious¬†people each day isn’t particularly fun. I would love a creative job, but I’m aware this probably won’t happen instantly… But If I could just work somewhere that makes me happier than I am now then I’d feel like I’ve achieved something!

Be happier – I know this probably sounds a bit odd, but I feel like I’m miserable so much and as I said above this is down to my job. When I look back to a few years ago I was 100 times happier than I am now. I used to be full of confidence and felt like I could conquer the world. I really want to get back my happiness and start having more confidence in myself again.
